One of the oldest and most universal stories known in literature, the epic of Gilgamesh presents the grand, timeless themes of love and death, loss and reparations within the stirring He is a wild man from the Steppe. The Epic of Gilgamesh came narratlve repeatedly in many of my Archaeology classes, I had a basic idea what it was mwson, but I never actually read it until I signed up for a Religious Studies class.


It’s quite easy to see parallels to other books and series I’ve read, and easier still to see why — despite its incompleteness and brevity, Gilgamesh’s story is epic. Mason is a professor of religious history, Narrativ is a noted poet, and Mitchell translates sacred works from all over the world. For comparison, Mitchell has: Selected pages Title Page.
